KUCHING, July 12: Minister of Utilities Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom urges all Sarawakians to hang the Sarawak flag outside their own premises to celebrate the Sarawak Day which falls on July 22.
“To commemorate the occasion, I also want the public to display the Sarawak flag at your own premises as a mark of respect for our Sarawak Day,” said Rundi who is also minister in charge of the celebration.
He stressed that this year’s Sarawak Day is special as it will be the first time it is being held outside Kuching.
“This a very good chance for the people in Bintulu and those from the surrounding areas to join and witness the celebration to commemorate our very special day in Sarawak,” said Dr Rundi at the press conference at his office at Wisma LCDA today.
“It is very important for all Sarawakians, especially the younger generations, to know our own history leading to our self-governance on July 22, 1963 from the British Government 56 years ago,” he added.
Dr. Rundi revealed that the first state legislative assembly (DUN) sitting in Sarawak was held in Bintulu, thus it is very significant for Sarawak Day to be hosted in Bintulu.
Seven interesting and exciting events will be held in conjunction with the celebration. The seven events are stated as follows:
Sarawak Day-E-Sports 2019
Venue: Naim Street Mall, Naim Paragon, Bintulu.
Date: July 20-22
Sarawak Day Run
Venue: Wisma Bintulu, Tanung Batu Bintulu
Date: 7 am on July 21
Category: 21 km (starts at 5.15 am), 10 km (6 am) and 5 km (6.30 am); family run starts at 4.30 pm on July 20.
Thanksgiving Prayer
Venue: Masjid Assyakirin, Bintulu.
Time and Date: 6 pm on July 21
Konsert Kamek Sayang Sarawak (free admission)
Venue: the Old Airport Road
Time and Date: 4 pm to 8 pm, July 21.
Perhimpuan Hari Sarawak 2019
Venue: The Old Airport Road
Time and Date: 9am, July 22
