KUCHING, May 12: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) predicts a rise in temperature and haze in the country from July to September 2022.

According to a press release issued by MetMalaysia on Tuesday (May 10), the southwest monsoon season is expected to begin this Saturday and last until mid-September.

MetMalaysia director-general Muhammad Helmi Abdullah said during this period, winds will blow consistently from the southwest during this period, with lower air humidity and stable atmospheric conditions.

“The situation would result in fewer rain clouds forming and most places across the country experiencing more days without rain than other seasons, as well as low rainfall distribution.

“However, due to the squall line phenomenon, heavy rain with strong winds and lightning could still occur on the west coast of the Peninsula and west Sabah in the early morning and last for several hours,” he explained.

He also warned that haze can occur during this time period if open burning is not controlled, especially from August to October.

Furthermore, Muhammad Helmi advised the public to use water wisely during this time.

The latest weather conditions can be obtained via the website, myCuaca mobile application, and social media, and the public can contact the MetMalaysia hotline at 1-300-22-1638 for further inquiries. — DayakDaily
