SIBU, May 12: Three persons have been reappointed as community leaders with the position of Temenggong for their respective communities for the Jan 1, 2022 to Dec 31, 2023 term.

They are Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce for the Malay-Melanau community, Datuk Lau Lee Ming for the Chinese community and Stanley Geramong Bandar for the Dayak community.

There are also five others reappointed as Penghulu and one as a Kapitan.

All of them received their appointment letters from Sibu Resident Wong Hee Sieng in a ceremony today which was witnessed by Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Michael Tiang and Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng.

Wan Hamid who has been holding the post for more than 20 years hinted that this could be his last term.

“I am getting old now. Maybe I will have to retire. Maybe YB (Michael Tiang) can recommend somebody else next time,” he told reporters after the ceremony.

He recalled that he was previously with PBB (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu). After leaving politics, he was appointed as Temenggong in 2000.

Meanwhile Stanley thanked the government for putting its trust in him following his reappointment.

“This is my second term as a community leader. I want to thank the government under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. I hope longhouse folk will continue to work with me for the betterment of the community,” he said. — DayakDaily
