KUCHING, Nov 8: The Lun Bawang community has been divided into two factions following the infiltration of political culture from the peninsula, says Deputy Sarawak Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

He said the older generations would remember how they lived in harmony and worked together until politics was used to cause disintegration within the community.

“The end result was that the Lun Bawang community was split into two because the political culture of the peninsula has spread here.

“Before them, there was no such thing. We used to work together, respect each other despite coming from different religious background.

“We know that (religious differences) and yet we did not make it as an obstacle for us to work together,” he said during the Sarawakku Sayang Programme in Lawas earlier today which was livestreamed by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) on Facebook today.

Awang Tengah also said that if this type of political culture continues to exist in Sarawak, it will bring problems to the Lun Bawang.

This, he said, also included certain groups that are anti-establishment.

“If you keep on having negative assumptions about the government, it will bring problems to the community itself. We can’t do that.

“If it wasn’t for Dato Henry Sum Agong (Lawas incumbent), cemented roads will be impossible to get for the Ba’ Kelalan area,” he added. — DayakDaily
