KUCHING, May 19:The Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government will suspend the licence and sales permit of the developer of the Treetops Apartment project in Bintulu pending compliance, in a decisive move to safeguard the interests of house purchasers affected by prolonged delays.
Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the action against the project’s developer, Twin Revenue Sdn Bhd, comes as the long-delayed development continues to await completion of key requirements before the issuance of the Occupation Permit (OP).
“Following a coordination meeting on May 8, 2026, remaining works required for the OP issuance for Block A and Block B, and subsequently Block C, are now targeted for completion in the third or fourth quarter of 2026, following the resolution of Sarawak Energy’s 33KV substation infrastructure requirements,” he said whe delivering his ministerial winding-up speech in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Sitting today.
Dr Sim, who is also Deputy Premier, also highlighted that the Housing Tribunal continues to serve as an avenue for purchasers seeking redress for Liquidated Ascertained Damages (LAD) arising from delays in the delivery of vacant possession.
“To date, three purchasers from this project have filed claims with the Tribunal, including one recently filed. Awards have been duly issued for two claims,” he said.
He added that the ministry’s decision to suspend the developer’s licence and sales permit pending compliance is necessary to ensure accountability and protect affected buyers.
The Treetops Apartment project has faced prolonged delays in completion, leaving future residents in limbo. Many purchasers are already servicing mortgages or awaiting relocation, with the uncertainty contributing to mounting financial and emotional distress. — DayakDaily
