MIRI, July 8: The recently declared 121 Industry Cluster that originated from Kuala Baram Industrial Park here with 113 Covid-19 cases is not related to Shin Yang Plywood Sdn Bhd.

Minister-in-charge of Miri Divisional Disaster Management Committee (Miri DDMC) Datuk Lee Kim Shin explained that the 121 Industry Cluster involved a different plywood factory located at the old Jalan Kuala Baram.

“The outbreak occurred at the workers’ quarters but the area has now been placed under lockdown until July 18,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Lee, who is also Minister of Transport, also revealed that five industry vaccination centres (PPVINs) for Miri Division will start their operations today.

They are PPVIN Emart Riam, PPVIN Miri Port, PPVIN Oil and Gas Lutong, PPVIN Saremas and PPVIN SOP Lambir.

“PPVIN Shin Yang Plywood Sdn Bhd has just received approval from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF) Sarawak and it is expected to start operations on July 12.

“Miri DDMC through CITF Sarawak has expanded the Covid-19 vaccination drive to industrial workers in the Miri Division,” he added.

Hence, he hopes that these efforts and collaboration from all stakeholders and communities will accelerate the vaccination process to achieve herd immunity by the end of August.

Earlier, Lee, together with several representatives from government departments and agencies had visited a few PPVINs to ensure preparations have been completed to kick start their vaccination drives.

Miri Division acting resident Jamalie Busri, State Enforcement and Security Unit assistant director Wagner Lisa Libut, Miri Division health officer Dr P Raviwharmman Packierisamy and Protect Health Corporation Sdn Bhd Dr Aszeriah were among those present. — DayakDaily
