KUCHING, Sept 5: Construction activities at Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak project sites in Serian can continue despite the haze, provided contractors and workers comply with appropriate health and safety precautions.
In a statement today, JKR Sarawak said all contractors, consultants and workers involved at the affected project sites must monitor current air quality levels and comply with health advice and instructions issued by the authorities from time to time.
Precautionary measures include ensuring workers get adequate rest, reducing prolonged exposure to polluted air and using appropriate respiratory protection when necessary.
Workers experiencing any health problems have also been advised to seek medical treatment immediately.
JKR Sarawak director Datu Dr Cassidy Morris stressed that the safety and health of all workers remained the department’s priority.
The department said it would continue monitoring developments and take appropriate action based on the latest directives and advice from the relevant authorities. —DayakDaily
