KUCHING, May 17: Over the past three years and five months since Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi has helmed the Ministry of Works, the federal government’s allocation to the Kapit Division has exceeded RM2.1 billion.

Speaking at a ‘Leaders with the People’ programme at Rumah Seblie Anak Ngelai, Nanga Dap, Batang Rajang in Kapit, Nanta said this includes over RM300 million for the Sungai Belawai Bridge crossing Batang Rajang, over RM400 million for the road from Nanga Belawai to Nanga Seranau, as well as projects such as the construction of the MARA Professional College, the new Kapit district police headquarters, and various other infrastructure projects.

Nanta, who is also Kapit MP, said that at the programme, issues related to the Jalan Jiwa Murni road were also addressed.

“Although the route was not built according to Public Works Department (JKR) specifications, efforts to resolve the matter will continue together with the local assemblyman, the State government, and relevant agencies for the benefit of the people,” he said.

As for RTP projects, he said they are not merely small-scale projects, but part of broader efforts to improve basic facilities and enhance the quality of life of the community.

Touching on the Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme (Sares), he said it demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring that people continue to have access to basic facilities even in remote interior areas and cited the upgrading project for Rumah Panjang Seblie Anak Ngelai, involving tile installation works at the longhouse ruai with a total value of RM408,000.

In addition, he also announced an allocation of RM250,000 for water supply to Rumah Seblie Anak Ngelai, as well as RM5,000 each to the Women’s Bureau for 20 longhouses that had not previously received allocations.

“Development in Kapit is not yet fully complete, but it is progressing and will continue to be strengthened.

“No area should be left behind, and I am confident that through close cooperation between the federal government, the State government, elected representatives, local leaders, and longhouse communities, more progress can be brought to the Kapit Division,” he said. — DayakDaily
