KAPIT, Aug 23: Kapit MP Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi hopes that the Baleh Kapit Raft Safari (BKRS) will continue to be held in the years to come as not just a rafting competition, but also as a tribute to the legacy left behind by the late Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing, who inaugurated the event.

In a Facebook post, Nanta, who launched the 29th edition of BKRS 2026 on Saturday (Aug 22), said the competition also embodies team spirit, cooperation, and strengthened ties among community members.

At the same time, it also helps to promote Baleh, Bukit Mabong, and Kapit as destinations for adventure sports and ecotourism.

“The presence of participants and visitors also creates economic opportunities for the local community through food, accommodation, transportation and local products,” he said.

Nanta, who is also Works Minister, said that the event also marked a milestone, with the Bukit Mabong District Office organising BKRS for the first time.

“I want BKRS to continue growing until the names Baleh and Kapit become synonymous with Raft Safari, not only in Sarawak but also at the national and international levels,” he said.

Meanwhile, in a separate Facebook post, he also visited residents at the longhouses around Ng Sepata.

“Cooperation among elected representatives in the Kapit Division, despite being from different political parties, is also important to ensure development in the area can continue.

“As a token of appreciation to the residents who helped make BKRS a success, I announced a total contribution of RM33,000 through the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs), comprising RM20,000 for the Jonas Luat longhouse and RM13,000 for the Kuling Luat longhouse,” he said. — DayakDaily
