KUCHING, March 12: Motorists using the Samarahan/Kuching expressway and the roundabout in the vicinity of Intan are advised to plan their journey in advance and to take alternative routes to reach their destination.

Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak in a Facebook post advised motorists to take these routes to mitigate traffic jams when using the expressway during the two work shifts being utilised by the department to repair and upgrade the road.

For the work shift from 9am to 4pm (see Fig 1), the yellow arrow marks the alternative route from Jalan Musa to Kuching, the red arrow is the alternative route from 15th Mile to Jalan Musa and the purple arrow indicates the alternative route from Kuching to Samarahan.

For the work shift from 9pm to 4am (see Fig 2), the yellow arrow marks the alternative route from Jalan Musa to Kuching, the red arrow is the alternative route from 15th Mile to Jalan Musa, the brown arrow is the alternative route from Jalan Musa to 15th Mile and the purple arrow marks the alternative route from Kuching to Samarahan.

The two work shifts are necessary due to unpredictable bad weather causing work to stop, and to ensure speedy repairs and upgrading work.

JKR also advised motorists to use the road cautiously as the road leading to the roundabout is still gravel surface. Premix cannot be laid out for the time being due to continuous heavy rainfall in the last few days.
