KUALA LUMPUR, March 12: The process to add more dialysis machines in Sarawak will be carried out in phases from 2023 to 2024, says Deputy Minister of Health Lukanisman Awang Sauni.

The Sibuti MP acknowledged that hemodialysis centres in Sarawak are relatively lacking in the suburbs and rural areas.

“I take the example of my work visit to Simunjan, where we can see patients from as far as Sri Aman, having to travel back and forth within a two-hour journey just to get hemodialysis treatment since Sri Aman does not have enough dialysis machines,” he said during Parliament recently.

He was responding to a question raised by Batang Lupar MP Mohamad Shafizan Kepli on the need for the federal government to consider adding medical machine services in health clinics in the interior of Sarawak.

The latter informed that rural clinics lack dialysis machines for hemodialysis treatment, x-ray and so on, which make it very difficult for rural residents to seek medical treatment.

At the same time, Shafizan also raised education matters relating to Sarawak which prompted feedback from Minister of Education Fadhlina Sidek.

“On the development status of SK Tungkah Melayu and SK Tuanku Bagus Sebangan, both projects have been approved under the RM1 billion upgrading of dilapidated schools in Sarawak. They are now in the pre-construction phase.

“The Ministry will also look into the proposal to build an open-air hall at SMK Pusa specifically from the aspect of suitability as well as the ownership status of the land site at the school,” she said. — DayakDaily
