KUCHING, Nov 16: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kuching youth chief and P195 Bandar Kuching candidate Eric Tay Tze Kok has called into question what advancements and changes have been made in Kuching, Sarawak’s capital, with only an RM9 million allocation.

Tay alleged that according to Democratic Action Party (DAP) candidate for Bandar Kuching Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen, who is also the incumbent, revealed that Kuching received only RM9 million in allocations.

On Oct 22, Dr Yii announced that he has spent a total of RM9,890,467.50 on education, welfare, health, the community, and youth development in the Bandar Kuching constituency from 2018 until 2022.

“According to Kelvin Yii’s report, Kuching was allocated only RM9 million, which is worse than rural areas.

“Nonetheless, I admire his bravery for making the report,” he said earlier tonight during his speech at the SUPP ceramah, which was held at a local mall’s car park here.

He continued stating, “What advancements and changes had been made in Kuching, Sarawak’s capital, with only an RM9 million allocation? We want economic independence by 2030.”

Tay emphasised that Kuching’s position is extremely important and strategic.

“As we all know, our neighbour Indonesia is planning to relocate its capital to the archipelago by 2024.

“As a result, we must expand opportunities in Borneo’s economic range, which includes Sarawak, Sabah, and Kalimantan,” he added.

He went on to say, “We have an expansive vision and mission that can only be accomplished by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

“We must therefore recapture the Bandar Kuching (parliamentary) seat. And with the support of GPS, I am confident I can win.” — DayakDaily
