KUCHING, Nov 16: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has announced an allocation of RM350 million for the flood mitigation plan at Stampin Resettlement Scheme in Kota Sentosa today.

He said this during the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) ceramah for P195 Bandar Kuching and P196 Stampin at Aeroville Mall here tonight.

“Here (in Stampin), floods always happen because of the peat soil condition. When heavy rain falls, flood will hit the area but Stampin MP is not here. He ‘tengok saja’ (just look).

“This time, (Kota Sentosa assemblyman) Wilfred (Yap) will do it. I’ve checked, we have enough budget. So, we will do the DID (Department of Irrigation and Drainage) project (in Stampin Resettlement Scheme),” he said.

Meanwhile, Abang Johari said Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is determined to wrest back Bandar Kuching and Stampin from the Opposition to allow development in the two areas.

He said people’s representatives must deliver what they promise to the people, and he himself has fulfilled his promise to establish a sovereign fund for Sarawak.

“In the last (State Election) manifesto, I said I want to set up a sovereign fund for the future of Sarawak children. So, next week in DUN (Sarawak Legislative Assembly), I will table the Bill,” he added.

Also present at the ceramah tonight were SUPP president Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, Yap, GPS-SUPP candidates for Bandar Kuching Eric Tay and Stampin Lo Khere Chiang. — DayakDaily
