Foreigner arrested with 710.05gm of drugs in Sibu, could face death penalty

SIBU, June 16: A foreigner could face the gallows after various types of drugs was found in his possession at an entertainment centre in Jalan Pahlawan last night.

Sibu District Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the suspect was nabbed at about 10.20pm by a police team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division, Sibu District Police Headquarters (IPD).

“As a result of the investigation on the 26-year-old suspect, the police found 18 white plastic packets which contained juice powder suspected to be a mixture of Ecstasy type drugs with an estimated gross weight of 692.90 grammes.

“Also found were eight transparent plastic packets containing lumps of crystals suspected to be ketamine with an estimated gross weight of 9.18 grammes and 14 transparent plastic packets containing 14 pills suspected to be Ecstasy with an estimated gross weight of 8.07 grammes,” he said.

According to Zulkipli, the total weight of the seizure amounted to 710.05 grammes valued at RM7,640.

The suspect has a previous drug-related record.

“The suspect has been remanded for seven days for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952.

“The section provides for the mandatory death sentence by hanging” Zulkipli added. — DayakDaily
