KUCHING, March 2: Floodwaters transformed roads in Taman Malihah in Matang into a raging river with many houses and vehicles submerged.

In Sarawak Edition’s Facebook live broadcast, it was reported that many residents, particularly young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with special needs, were stranded in their homes and at the bridge.

In certain sections of the densely populated residential area, floodwaters rose to chest-high levels as the river was overflowed.

Teams from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak and the Civil Defence Force (APM) were mobilised for evacuation operations.

However, enforcement personnel faced challenges as they had to wade through the deep waters while pulling their boats to reach affected houses.

Residents are rallying together, especially those with 4WD vehicles, offering assistance to those in distress and helping to transport them out of the area.
