KUCHING, March 2: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor, Dato Wee Hong Seng, has reiterated that the Sarawak government has initiated tenders to address several flash flood-prone areas under its jurisdiction.

Expressing concern for flood victims, Wee emphasised that MBKS has taken proactive measures by involving the Department of Irrigation (DID) Sarawak to devise effective solutions.

He cited one area, Batu Lintang, where the government tender has already been initiated.

“There will be several more areas in the city for which tenders have been called, as agreed during the mid-term review,” Wee stated during a press briefing at the free vaccination, licensing, microchipping, and subsidisation campaign for pet dogs held at Mayor Song Swee Guan Recreational Park, Tabuan Jaya today.

Wee stressed that no government or leader would wish to witness such events like flash floods occurring in their cities.

“We ask for everyone’s patience as we work through this issue. I am confident that we will resolve these challenges one by one. We are exerting our utmost efforts,” he assured.

He appealed to unaffected individuals in the city to extend assistance to flood victims.

“Let us be a caring and compassionate society, offering support whether to strangers or relatives. Even words of comfort can make a difference during such trying times,” he urged. — DayakDaily
