KUCHING, Nov 3: A combination of experienced and new faces will bring fresh ideas for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to take on the many challenges during the 15th General Election (GE15), says Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof.

The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) senior vice-president and Petra Jaya incumbent said the list of GPS candidates as announced by the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg today also reflects the understanding and agreement between the incumbents of the Parliamentary seats, which gives way to new faces to continue the party’s struggles.

“That is the level of political maturity in GPS where all leaders and members stick to the principle of putting the party’s priorities above self-interest.

“This strong spirit of unity and family is the strength of GPS, which consists of four component parties namely Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (PDP),” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Fadillah reminded all candidates to not rely on the coalition’s win record during the previous Sarawak State Election last December.

He said all candidates including GPS election machinery must not underestimate the challenge of the Opposition and need to work hard to win the support of voters of all ages and ensure that every GPS approach, policy and struggle reaches the people.

“GPS is the only coalition of local parties that has proven successful in bringing Sarawak’s voice to the Federal level and successfully fighting for Sarawak’s rights with only one tone, ‘Utamakan Sarawak’ or ‘Sarawak First’,” he added.

Fadillah has been holding the Petra Jaya seat since 2004 and will be contesting for the fifth time this GE15.

In GE14, he won with a majority of 15,017 votes against Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Nor Irwan Ahmat Nor (13,289 votes), and Malaysia Islamic Party (PAS) candidate Hamdan Sani (1,350). — DayakDaily
