Dr Rundi lauds Sarawak Budget 2023 as ‘a rural-biased budget’

KUCHING, Nov 21: The Sarawak Budget 2023 is a rural-biased budget, says Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

Dr Rundi, who is Kemena assemblyman and Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, said about 60 per cent of the budget is allocated to build the necessary infrastructure and utilities for rural areas, including telecommunication.

“This needs a lot of money, and on my part, in the agriculture sector, it’s the only way for us to transform the rural areas.

“So that is basically what the Sarawak government is doing. I’m very happy with the budget,” he told reporters when met at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) building today.

Meanwhile, Dr Rundi pointed out that the budget is surplus revenue that is given back to the people of Sarawak.

He added Sarawak would have its own sovereign fund to ensure its bright future, and all that’s left to do now is to develop the rural areas.
