KUCHING, Nov 28: Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (DAPSY) Sarawak has lodged a report with Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over a RM122 million contract awarded to joint venture companies to supply 55 hydrogen buses to Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd.

According to DAPSY Sarawak secretary George Lam, the two companies’ records, which is a West Malaysian company and a Sarawak company, as pointed out by Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong during the recent Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting earlier this month, clearly do not meet the requirement of the tender.

“Today we are here is because during the winding-up speech (during DUS Sitting) by Minister of Transport Sarawak Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, even many times (sic) DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen as the head of opposition, wanted to interrupt and seek for clarification, but he (Lee) refused to give way for Chong.

“So we find that the reasons given by the minister are insufficient which does not help to clarify the issue of why these two companies are able to be awarded this contract,” he said when met by reporters outside the MACC Sarawak office here today.

Lam said he hoped MACC Sarawak will take this seriously and investigate the matter.

“We think that there are more to come when Sarawak is embarking into various mega projects. There are more things that require scrutiny, check-and-balance so to ensure that there are accountability, transparency and good governance in Sarawak.

“So we will continue to play our role to strive for a bigger mandate from the people and to have more representatives in the coming State election,” he added.

On Nov 20, Sarawak Metro affirmed its commitment to transparency and integrity, welcoming relevant authorities to audit its procurement processes. — DayakDaily
