Covid-19: Teacher and Chinese masseur among 14 new cases

KUCHING, Nov 2: A teacher, lecturer, security guard and a Chinese masseur were among 14 new positive cases of Covid-19 reported in Kuching today.

The information was disclosed by State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas during a press conference.


He revealed that there were five cases which were related to the Greenhill Cluster, adding that there was a new Covid-19 cluster which involved three new cases identified by the State Health Department known as the Wisma Saberkas Cluster.

“There is one case (from the Greenhill Cluster) which involves a local woman who works as a lecturer in a private institution of higher learning in Kuching.

“She is the close contact to case 868 and experienced a headache.

“There were three new cases identified through contact tracing activities to case 884 who were tested positive on November 1,” he said.

Uggah said there were also four cases identified from self Covid-19 swab tests at health facilities.

“One involved a man who has lost his sense of smell, a woman who is a teacher at a daycare centre in Kuching, a man who works as a security guard and a Chinese masseur,” he said.

He added that there were also two cases in which one involved a man who returned from Negri Sembilan and an Indonesian who underwent Covid-19 swab test prior to him returning to work.

Uggah who is Deputy Chief Minister said with the additional 14 cases, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has increased to 906 cases.

He added there were eight patients who recovered and were allowed to be discharged from the hospitals.

Uggah who is Second Finance Minister said a total of 126 patients were receiving treatment at the isolation wards in the hospitals throughout Sarawak.

He said there were 26 new cases of Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) while two PUI were awaiting laboratory test results. —DayakDaily
