BETONG, Aug 22: A new P-turn under the RM23.7 million Jalan Ulu Rimbas upgrading project is set to make trips to Betong shorter and more convenient for about 2,000 residents from 12 local communities.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the project, implemented under the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA), received an allocation of RM25 million, with a contract value of RM23.7 million.
“If coming from Kuching, residents have to travel quite far before making a turn back towards this area. With the P-turn, the travelling distance to Betong will be shorter and more convenient for residents,” he said when launching the Jalan Ulu Rimbas Upgrading Project today, as reported by TVS.
He said the project includes upgrading 18.7 kilometres of existing roads to seven-metre-wide Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) R3 standards and paving another 1.5 kilometres along the Keribau Access Road.
Uggah said the P-turn was approved to provide better access for Rimbas residents, who have been taking longer routes to reach Betong.
JKR is implementing the project, which is scheduled for completion within 24 months, from July 23, 2026 to July 22, 2028.
The scope of work includes drainage systems, traffic signs, road markings, road barriers, street lighting, and utility relocation.
The roads involved include Jalan Ulu Rimbas, Jalan Ulu Babu, Nanga Bayor, and Ulu Bayor. — DayakDaily
