Covid-19 continues to surge in Kuching with 231 of 652 cases

KUCHING, Aug 6: Covid-19 cases continue to surge in Kuching as it reported 231 out of total 652 cases in Sarawak today.

According to reports by State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Kuching has been leading the daily toll for over three weeks now since July 14.


Other districts that saw double-digit case numbers today were Simunjan (84), Serian (65), Mukah (55), Miri (34), Sibu (31), Samarahan (22), Bintulu (21), Bau (20), Kanowit (18), Tatau (17), Sri Aman (12), Selangau (12) and Lundu (11).

The remaining districts with new infections included Telang Usan with six cases, Saratok, Sarikei, Subis, Beluru and Asajaya with two cases each, Betong, Meradong and Tebedu with one case each.

With that, SDMC said the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 80,174.

“Out of the 652 patients, 310 were detected following close contact screenings where 55 of them were symptomatic.

“Another 121 cases were of individual screenings from active clusters where three of them showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

“Adding on, 37 cases were of symptomatic screenings and 184 cases were from other screenings in health facilities,” it said in a statement on Covid-19 update today.

On Covid-19 fatality, zero cases were recorded today, thus maintaining the Covid-19 death toll at 466.

Meanwhile, 680 patients were discharged from hospitals across Sarawak, so there remain 6,858 active cases in isolation or treatment. — DayakDaily
