KUCHING, Feb 26:  In view of the high number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak, State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has decided to extend Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) throughout Sarawak to Mar 15, 2021 while Sentosa Resettlement Scheme Phase 2 (Sentosa) is placed under Enhanced MCO (EMCO) until Mar 12, 2021.

On Jan 27, 2021, SDMC placed Sibu under under MCO while the rest of Sarawak under CMCO.

Following the increase of cases throughout the whole of Sarawak, on Feb 13, SDMC made another announcement to extend CMCO on the rest of Sarawak until Mar 1.

“After witnessing and evaluating the situation of positive Covid-19 cases in Sarawak which saw increasing number of cases, SDMC decided that CMCO should continue to be implemented in Sarawak from Mar 1, 2021 (12.01am) to Mar 15, 2021 (11.59pm),” said SDMC in a statement today.

Meanwhile, due to the outbreak of Covid-19 in Sibu, MCO was imposed on the Division which included Sibu, Selangau and Kanowit districts from Jan 16 to Jan 29, 2021.

Despite the strict measure, Covid-19 positive cases in Sibu continued to raise and spread, causing SDMC to announce MCO extension from Jan 30 to Feb 14.

MCO imposition in Sibu was lifted on Feb 15, following which Sibu joined the rest of Sarawak to come under CMCO.

Despite an almost one-month long MCO, cases in Sibu Division continued to raise as the pandemic has reached the community in general where some places are worse hit than others.

Presently, the two main zones which registered more cases than others are Tiong Hua Road area and Sentosa.

“SDMC has carried a risk assessment after detecting many positive cases involving Sentosa in Sibu District.  Thus, SDMC had decided to implement EMCO for Sentosa from Feb 27 (12.01am) to Mar 12 (11.59pm). — DayakDaily
