KUCHING, Sept 6: The Sarawak government is ready to administer Covid-19 vaccine for those below 18 years old this week.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and State Education Department were ironing out the details of the vaccination programme for those aged between 12 and 17.

He said the two agencies were working out on the infrastructure and the venue of the vaccination programme which will be implemented this week.

ā€œAt the moment, our medical experts are evaluating and we are providing the infrastructure on what are the effective ways to vaccinate them.

ā€œEither placing the teenagers (to be vaccinated) at the vaccination centres or vaccination at schools. These are being discussed by SDMC and State Education Department.

ā€œWhatā€™s important is that we can vaccinate our students and young people,ā€ he told reporters after being asked on the preparation of the vaccination programme for those aged 12 to 17 after attending the Land and Survey Integrity and Innovation Day at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex today.

Abang Johari said the State government thus expressed its appreciation to the Health Ministry for providing vaccination for those aged 12 to 17.

On Sept 4, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said Malaysiaā€™s Covid-19 vaccination rollout for teenagers aged 12 to 17 will begin in Sarawak this week. This was later confirmed by SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah yesterday that the programme will take place on Wednesday (Sept 8).

Sarawak is the first State throughout Malaysia to implement the initiative as the State has vaccinated over 80 per cent of the adult population. ā€” DayakDaily
