SIBU, Sept 6: Sibu police have warned that travellers from the Southern Zone intending to enter this town will be compounded RM2,000 and ordered to turn back if they do not possess required documents in accordance with standard operating procedure (SOP) guidelines.

Sibu Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division head, DSP Ariffin Baha told reporters at Paradom-Sibu entry point today that those from Southern Zone must show to policemen manning the roadblock of their negative Covid-19 PCR test result, police permit and vaccination certificate which show that they are fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

The Southern Zone covers Kuching, Bau, Lundu, Samarahan, Asajaya, Simunjan, Serian and Tebedu districts.

“We are fully enforcing the SOP set by State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) under Phase 3 of National Recovery Plan as from September onwards, the State has been reporting four-digit daily cases while Sibu Division is recording three-digit cases,” he said.

DSP Ariffin explained that those without any of the three required documents will be asked to turn back after the issuance of compound.

He further explained that for those with negative Covid-19 PCR test and two doses of vaccine but expired police permit, they can apply for it at the nearest police station outside Sibu before entering.

Meanwhile, he said negative PCR swab test is not required for those entering Sibu from Sarikei and Meradong districts.

“They only have to show police permit and employer’s letter at the roadblock at Paradom,” he said.

DSP Ariffin reminded that all entries to Sibu are for essential services only.

During a brief check on motorists from the Southern Zone by DSP Ariffin, two men from Kuching were compounded RM2,000 each as their police permit was issued three months before their swab tests.

“Their police permit was issued on May 29 while their swab tests were done later on Sept 5. It should be the other way round. Do your swab test first and if it is negative, then apply for the police permit,” he said. – DayakDaily
