SRI AMAN, Sept 24: The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) ferried about 70 AsiaFlux 2022 participants from Lingga jetty to Maludam National Park yesterday (Sept 23).

The group comprised of environmental scientists from different fields and stakeholders from foreign countries and other states in Malaysia.

The excursion was part of the three-day AsiaFlux 2022 event organised by Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Centre (TROPI).

Sarawak Bomba Assistant Director for Operations Division Henderi Ardimansyah said nine boats were deployed to the location with a strength of 20 Bomba personnel.

“We are glad that we are able to help TROPI in ferrying the participants safely to and on their journey back from Maludam National Park.

“We also provided life jackets for the participants as part of the safety measures,” he told DayakDaily yesterday (Sept 23).

However, Henderi informed that during the trip back to Lingga jetty in the evening, they encountered a technical problem with the engine of one of the boats.

“The boat started malfunctioning five minutes after departing from Maludam riverbank.

“So we executed a backup plan by transferring the participants from the malfunctioning boat to two boats who made the earlier trips.

“Then we towed the boat to the Lingga jetty,” he added.

Each boat trip took about 30 minutes from Lingga jetty to Maludam National Park.

Prior to the trip, Henderi gave a safety briefing to the delegation at 8am.
