KUCHING, Apr 22: A 14-year-old boy feared drowned while bathing in a river at Kampung Segubang Bau this afternoon was later found dead during a search-and-rescue operation.
The victim, identified as Bun Boo Kiet, had earlier been reported missing while bathing in the river with four friends.
The incident was reported at about 4pm, prompting firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Bau station to be dispatched to the scene. The team arrived at the location at approximately 4.16pm.
According to operations commander PBK I Awang Saifull Awang Nusi, search efforts were carried out at the last known location where the victim was seen, using water surface searching techniques as well as free diving.
The victim was located at about 5.36pm at a depth of approximately 10-15 metres from the point where he was last reported missing.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by Ministry of Health personnel.
The body was later handed over to the police for further action and the operation concluded at around 6pm after authorities confirmed the area was safe. — DayakDaily
