Bodies of two siblings feared drowned in Batang Mukah river found

KUCHING, March 20: The body of one of two siblings feared drowned while bathing in the Batang Mukah river on Tuesday (March 20) was found this morning at Kala Dana beach, while the other was discovered yesterday evening.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the body of seven-year-old Susie Kiu, was discovered swept ashore at Kala Dana beach around 9.25am by villagers.

The body of her brother, 10-year-old Dexper Kiu, was first found yesterday at 4.40pm by the police team, approximately two kilometres away from the location of the incident.

On Tuesday (March 20), the Bomba reported that the siblings had gone to bath at the riverbank of the Batang Mukah river near the Yellow bridge. However, the children, who did not know how to swim, were quickly pulled underwater by the strong current.

Initial rescue attempts by the mother were unsuccessful. – DayakDaily
