Bekenu rep urges JKR Miri to look into allegations new jetty not worth RM50,000 price tag

MIRI, 10 April: Bekenu assemblywoman Datuk Rosey Yunus is urging the Miri Public Works Department (JKR) to look into and investigate allegations surrounding the cost of a wooden jetty project at Kampung Mutap, Bekenu.

“I’ll let JKR Miri to look into the matter first, before we decide our next course,” said Rosey when met today at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) N71 Bekenu general meeting in Miri.


Rosey who is also Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Development I disclosed that she did not have details about the project.

The recently completed wooden jetty project in Kampung Mutap Bekenu has become a viral subject on social media following allegations it was not constructed according to its allocated budget.

The one-metre-wide by 15-metre-long wooden jetty was completed on April 1, after a month of construction by Miri JKR.

Photos of the completed wooden jetty have gone viral on social media with netizens expressing their shock with the quality of the project which cost RM50,000.

On a Facebook post dated April 8, JKR uploaded images of the completed project. As of 6.15pm today, the post has received more than 6,500 comments and been shared more than 4,300 times. Many comments from users on the post describe the project’s cost as too expensive or ‘premium pricing’ compared to the end result. — DayakDaily
