KUCHING, May 15: A total of 10 schools from Bau participated in the STEM CATALYSTS programme, gaining valuable exposure to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) through engaging, hands-on learning experiences.

Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep highlighted that STEM education programmes play a vital role in nurturing student interest and introducing them to career opportunities.

“STEM learning is a positive step in attracting young students’ interest, as well as introducing them to career opportunities in a rapidly growing field in the modern world.

“Learning that involves hands-on activities and a more fun approach like this can foster a deep interest among students.

“The effectiveness of such an approach is very noticeable because students not only learn theory but also apply what they learn in a more practical atmosphere,” he said during his visit to the STEM CATALYSTS programme held at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJK) Chung Hua Bau, as reported by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).

The programme, a collaboration between the Sarawak Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) and Sarawak Skills, aims to spark curiosity in young learners through fun and interactive practical activities

Henry added that students are given the opportunity to delve into science and technology concepts in a relaxed, interactive and practical atmosphere, in a much more engaging way than the traditional approach.

The programme offered various exhibition spaces and interactive activities related to STEM. Among the exhibitors involved were Sarawak Skills, Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS), as well as several agencies and institutions that share expertise in this field. – DayakDaily
