BINTULU, Nov 1: An Abu Dhabi company has expressed interest in investing in Sarawak’s renewable energy projects, says Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof.

He said this is part of the company’s intention to invest a total of USD20 billion in Malaysia over a 10-year period.

The hydropower projects and the Batang Ai floating solar pilot project in Sarawak are among the projects that caught the investor’s attention.

“(Sarawak Deputy Premier) Datuk Amar Awang Tengah (Ali Hasan) is in KL because he’s meeting with a huge company from Abu Dhabi. Their CEO (chief executive officer) came and they wish to invest in Sarawak.

“They intend to invest USD20 billion in Malaysia over 10 years and Sarawak is one of the destinations they’re looking at in terms of renewable energy,” said Fadillah.

He said Sarawak’s political stability under the leadership of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is one of the main pulling factors for foreign investors.

“When the political scene is stable, the leaders can focus on the administration of the State.

“That’s why you see many announcements of projects in Sarawak that involves hydrogen, aviation fuel from algae, and many more,” said Fadillah when attending a ‘Meet with Leaders’ programme held at the Kampung Kemunting multipurpose hall here today.

With the Jepak by-election around the corner, Fadillah, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) senior vice-president, urged all Jepak voters to fulfill their duties on the Nov 4 polling day.

He asserted that it’s only with a strong majority and a big win that the people’s representative from Jepak can have a stronger voice in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN).

Meanwhile, when asked for his advice for the PBB candidate in the Jepak by-election Iskandar Turkee, Fadillah said Iskandar needs to meet as many voters as he can during the campaign period as most of the constituents may not know him yet.

“He (Iskandar) needs to tell the people of Jepak that he is not only a local Vaie, but also someone who can be committed in providing devotional services to Jepak.

“He can also share his visions for Jepak with its people and more importantly introduce himself to them,” said Fadillah. — DayakDaily
