SIBU, Aug 20: About 7,000 policemen will be deployed throughout the State for the 15th General Election (GE15).

“That is the number of policemen who will be deployed throughout the State during GE15 which is expected to be held anytime.

“We are just ready for the election in terms of energy, security and so on according to our duties,” said Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri at a reunion dinner last night for former police officers and civil servants who served during the Rajang Security Command (Rascom) era last night.

Mohd Azman, however did not rule out the possibility that manpower would be increased if the situation required it.

“Currently, we have an estimated 7,000 members to be deployed on duty in GE15 because this is what we used during the last 12th State Election (PRN12).

“For this GE15, we will assess the situation and increase the number of members if necessary,” he said.

Mohd Azman, when asked if leave application for police personnel is currently frozen, he said, the matter has not yet been implemented.

Earlier in his speech at the event, Mohd Azman said he attended the event to support retirees, especially those who had served in areas under Rascom.

“As the CP (Police Commissioner) of Sarawak, we will give a commitment to help retirees in whatever problems they face, especially in managing the affairs of retirees to get the National Service Medal (PJN),” he said.

In addition, Mohd Azman revealed that he has visited 27 of the 28 District Police Headquarters (IPD) throughout Sarawak and he will make his last stop at Kuching IPD on August 25 to complete his series of visits to IPD in the State.

“Through the visit, I was able to see for myself the situation where I met with officers and policemen to find out their problems and logistics.

“So, we will make a report and send it to the leadership to pay attention to this problem,” he said.

Also present were Sarawak Former Police Association advisor Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd, Sarawak Former Police Association chairman Han Hapeni, Sibu District Police Chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili and his deputy Superintendent Dr Collin Babat. ā€” DayakDaily
