Deputy premier: Bekenu to have more ATMs soon

MIRI, Aug 21: The Sarawak government is discussing with the banking sector to set up more automated teller machine (ATM) services in Bekenu, said Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

According to him, the government has approved the installation of the ATMs in the area.


“We are in the process of identifying the best locations for the ATMs,” he said during the Amanah Iktiar Malaysia (AIM) Niah branch award night held in Miri last night (Aug 20).

Awang Tengah said this in response to a request made by the chairlady of Kelab Usahawan Wanita Ikhtar Niah (Kuwin), Norlela Omar, for more ATM services in Bekenu.

“God willing, they will arrange for the kiosks to be installed in Bekenu,” he said at the event, which 800 people attended.

At the event, Awang Tengah also approved grants totalling RM100,000 to the AIM Niah Branch.

The grants were contributed by Awang Tengah; Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni; Federal Deputy Minister of Rural Development Datuk Hasbi Habibollah; International Trade and Investment Ministry advisor Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais; Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Development (Women and Childhood Development) Datuk Rosey Yunus, and Deputy Minister of Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development (Entrepreneur Development) Dr Ripin Lamat. — DayakDaily
