KUCHING, May 23: The Kuching Waterfront roared to life today as the sound of powerful motorcycle exhaust filled the air, marking the start of a convoy of 600 big bikes heading to Kampung Lot Bako for the Borneo Island International Big Bike Festival (BIBBF) 2026.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the convoy formed part of the festival’s “fun ride” programme, drawing participants from Sarawak, Sabah, the Federal Territories, Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia.

Borneo Island Big Bikers (BIBB) Sarawak president Ramlee Tuah said the second-day programme focused on community engagement with villagers at Kampung Bako Lot.

He said various activities were planned, including traditional sports with villagers, followed by a lunch gathering between bikers and residents.

“We will enjoy village food, especially seafood dishes, as Bako is a fishing area,” he said when met before leading the convoy today.

Ramlee said the response from participants had been positive, especially regarding Sarawak’s well-maintained roads, which had given satisfaction to bikers from neighbouring countries, including Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Sabah.

It is understood that a total of 1,225 participants are taking part in the festival, which is now in its 24th edition.

The first-day programme featured a “Battle of the Bands” competition, which drew youth participation from across Sarawak in collaboration with the Sarawak Arts Council (SAC).

Among the highlights, Ramlee said, is a gala dinner which is expected to draw over 1,200 participants, featuring local and Peninsular Malaysia singers.

Although most bikers will depart the following day, festival activities will continue until the afternoon with the Idol BIBBF event, aimed at discovering new singing talents among youths around Kuching.

The annual event is rotated among five main Borneo clubs, namely PEMODA (Brunei Darussalam), BIBB (Sarawak), IMBI (Indonesia), SBBA (Sabah) and LA RIDERS (Federal Territory of Labuan).

The next edition will be hosted by LA Riders Labuan next year, followed by Brunei Darussalam in 2028, Sabah in 2029, Indonesia in 2030, and Sarawak again in 2031. — DayakDaily
