KUCHING, Aug 12: Over 100 teachers are participating in a high-powered motorcycle expedition in conjunction with the Sarawak-level Teachers’ Day celebration in Limbang from Aug 14 to 21.

The expedition was organised by the Sarawak Teachers’ Bikers Club (STBC) in collaboration with the Education Bureau of the Malaysian Drug Prevention Association (Pemadam) Sarawak.

The convoy will stop at several destinations including SMK Long Lama, SK Long Kevok, SK Long Seridan and SK Melaban in Limbang.

Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who is also the Sarawak Pemadam chairman officiated at the flag-off ceremony held at the Sarawak Education Department today.

In his speech, he said the convoy will create awareness on drug prevention to rural schools along the way.

“The drug crime index in Sarawak is among the lowest throughout Malaysia. However, we must always be vigilant and continue to ensure that drug crimes will not be prevalent in the State.

“The expedition is part of an effort for us to deliver drug prevention messages to the rural areas, which among their destinations are the areas that are facing connectivity problems and are hard-to-access,” he said.

At the event, Abdul Karim presented an allocation of RM10,000 to the STBC for the funding of their activities. — DayakDaily
