KUCHING, Oct 24: Dragon and lion dance enthusiasts are in for a thrilling weekend as 45 teams from across the region gather for the Sarawak Open International Dragon and Lion Dance Cup 2024, taking place at Stadium Perpaduan on Oct 26 and Oct 27.
According to a press release from the Chinese Martial Art Association (CMAA), its president and organising chairman, Chester Lim, warmly invited the public to attend this highly anticipated event, with free admission for all.
Apart from Sarawak, the competition has attracted teams from Peninsula Malaysia, Sabah, Brunei, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, and China.
The event is fully supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts.
Kapitan Tan Kun Gee, the association’s advisor and competition chairman, provided details of the event’s schedule where on Oct 26, the Northern Lion Dance competition will run from 11am to 12pm.
This will be followed by the High Pole Southern Lion Dance teams competing from 1pm to 4.30pm.
The evening will feature the Luminous Dragon Dance, starting at 6.45pm and concluding by 8.15pm, after the opening ceremony.
On Oct 27, the Traditional Southern Lion Dance competition will begin at 9am, running until approximately 7pm, with a prize ceremony and closing event to follow.
