KUCHING, Feb 3: A man was sentenced to five years in prison by the Sessions Court today after pleading guilty to possessing and brandishing a knife inside Padungan Police Station.
Judge Musli Abd Hamid handed down the sentence to 52-year-old Mohamad Teddy Chieng Abdullah after he admitted to committing an offence under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
This provision stipulates a prison term ranging from five to 10 years, along with caning upon conviction.
The incident occurred at 3.25pm on October 31, 2024, within the Padungan police station.
According to case details, a police officer on duty at the complaints counter reported that the accused had approached her while retrieving a knife from his bag.
He then brandished the weapon and made stabbing motions as if attempting to attack someone.
