MIRI, Jan 29: Minister of Transport Sarawak Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin is confident that the opening of Uptown Night Market at Desa Senadin would open up more opportunities for small traders around the area.

Lee, who is also Senadin assemblyman, said the night market provides a huge space for local traders to sell their products at an affordable rental price.

When met after distributing Mandarin oranges to patrons and traders at the Uptown Night Market on Friday evening, Lee has called up the area’s property developer (Miri Housing) to help provide utility facilities so that traders have better access to clean water supply and electricity.

“Because we wanted to transform this area into an interesting marketplace, enticing shoppers and small traders to converge here and make it into a vibrant place,” he pointed out.

The Senadin Uptown Night market started operating on Jan 18 this year with 30 stalls selling various kinds of items namely food and beverages and bundled items.

“A good start with over 30 stalls and the ‘rumah asap’ barbecue stalls seem to have a good number of customers. Nice area for an Uptown Night Market,” Lee added. — Dayakdaily
