MIRI, Jan 29: Basic food supplies for this coming Chinese New Year celebration is sufficient and there is no need for panic buying, says Minister of Transport Sarawak Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin.

“Do not indulge in panic buying, because the supplies including chicken eggs are more than enough,” he disclosed after launching the ‘Keluarga Malaysia’ sales programme at E-Mart Hypermarket in Riam.

Lee added, the officers from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Miri branch are monitoring the situation from time to time to ensure no shortage of essential goods in this division.

Meanwhile, on the supplies of chicken eggs in Miri, Lee disclosed, the supplies are sufficient, and to avoid panic buying on the item, supermarkets have imposed purchase limits to shoppers.

“Under these new purchase limits, one shopper can only buy one tray of eggs.

“Panic-buying on chicken eggs will lead to the shortages and we do not want any shortages on the items or on any essential items,” he said.

Also present at the launching was KPDNHEP Miri chief Joe Azmi Jamil.

Under the programme (Keluarga Malaysia Sales), a total of 20 essential items are being offered 15 to 20 per cent lower than the marker rate aimed to ease the burden of peoples’ financial burden.
