KUCHING, Oct 27: Some 26 SPM, STPM, diploma and degree graduates have received educational incentives from the Bukit Semuja Education Bureau to further their studies.
Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus, while handing out the incentives, also distributed Outright Grant (OG) cheques to 23 Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs), associations and clubs at Barembeh Centre Ranchan in Serian today.
He said such incentive programmes especially the distribution of incentives to students who scored excellent results in examinations and that aim to ease the burden of parents, had been halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Prior to the outbreak, the Bukit Semuja Education Bureau would organise various education and training activities such as workshop and motivational programmes for primary school students and parents, the ‘U’ Entry program as well as the Effective Interview Training.
This year, the bureau was only involved in a joint student motivation programme held virtually whereby the ‘Guidance and Counseling Programme’ was organised by SMK Serian and the ‘Self-Excellence Motivation Programme’ by the Bukit Semuja service centre, for SMK Serian, SMK Tarat, SMK Taee, SMK Tebakang and SMK Gedong.
“The purpose is to focus on students who are undergoing the home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) which is the new norm due to Covid-19.
“The bureau is planning a few similar programmes and adding some more activities for the near future,” said John in a statement today.
Adding on, he said a database will be created at service centre level to keep records of students to plan for future programmes and as a benchmark for any applications for the development in this area. — DayakDaily
