KUCHING, March 13: The Ministry of Education (MOE) is fully prepared for the transition back to the January school session starting in 2026, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
Speaking to reporters, Fadhlina said preparations have been carried out smoothly, with a focus on ensuring that the 190 school days, as stated in the Education (Terms, Days, and School Holidays) Regulations 1998 (Amendment) 2021, are fulfilled.
“Alhamdulillah, we have made thorough preparations. The 2025 SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) examination will also begin slightly earlier this year and will be completed before Christmas.
“We have taken into account all holidays and commitments at the ministry level to ensure that by 2026, we will fully return to the January school session,” she said after attending an iftar programme held at Serapi Hotel here today.
Following the spread of the Covid-19 virus in 2020, the MOE rescheduled the academic calendar from January to March 2021.
The March session continued for 2022, 2023, and 2024, before being adjusted to February in 2025 as part of a gradual transition.
By 2026, the school session is expected to fully return to January, as it was before the pandemic. – DayakDaily
