18 S’wak districts hit by Covid-19 infections with total tally of 173 cases

KUCHING, March 12: A total of 18 districts in Sarawak are infected with Covid-19 today, with a total tally of 173 cases.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said districts seeing new Covid-19 cases are Sibu (71), Miri (19), Bintulu (16), Kuching (15), Meradong (10), Serian (9), Julau (7), Kapit (5), Tanjung Manis (5), Betong (3), Belaga (2), Mukah (2), Sri Aman (2), Subis (2), Telang Usan (2), Dalat (1), Samarahan (1) and Sarikei (1).


Out of the total, 106 were from close contact screenings across 13 districts namely in Sibu (56), Bintulu (13), Miri (10), Serian (9), Meradong (7), Tanjung Manis (4), Kuching (1), Kapit (1), Sri Aman (1), Mukah (1), Telang Usan (1), Samarahan (1) and Dalat (1).

Other than that, 17 cases were reported from those who went for swab tests at health centres in Sibu with the most of 12 cases, Miri three cases and Belaga two.

Today, one medical officer in Sibu health facilities was registered to have been infected with Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

From the 173 new cases, Uggah said 19 individuals or 10.98 per cent of the total showed Covid-19 signs and symptoms when they were screened.

Moving on, there was a total of 33 new cases related to active clusters in the state today.

Clusters with new cases are the Emperoh Jambu Cluster with 14 cases, Sena Cluster with seven cases, Buluh Pasi Cluster with three cases, Bukit Tunggal Cluster with three cases, Jalan Muhibbah Cluster with three cases, Kiba, Gelong and Jalan Main Bazaar Clusters with one case each.

Meanwhile, Uggah pointed out 203 recoveries across the state namely in Sibu Hospital (84), Sarikei Hospital (32), Kapit Hospital (29), Sarawak General Hospital (26), Bintulu Hospital (19), Miri Hospital (12) and Betong Hospital (1).

He also reported 2,330 patients who are still receiving treatment in the hospitals across the state.—DayakDaily
