KUCHING, June 11: There are currently no ‘sick projects’ in Sarawak, as the State government continues its strict oversight of public development initiatives to ensure they are delivered on time and according to schedule.

According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Deputy Premier and Infrastructure and Port Development Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said continuous monitoring by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), in close collaboration with his ministry, has helped ensure that all people-centric projects remain on track.

“JKR is closely monitoring all public projects announced by the Premier to ensure timely completion and zero sick projects,” he told reporters during a working visit to two project sites in Selangau yesterday (June 10).

Among the projects visited was the construction site of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Selangau, which has recorded promising progress. Launched in July 2024, the project is currently ahead of schedule by 4.34 per cent, with a physical completion rate of 19.41 per cent.

The project is expected to be completed earlier than its original June 2027 target, possibly by Dec 2026.

“I am very satisfied with the project’s performance. With a good site, not located in peat or mountainous areas, it has progressed smoothly,” he said.

The SMK Selangau development includes the construction of 18 classrooms, a student hostel, teachers’ quarters, and various facilities across a 22.2-acre site at Batu 51 ½, Jalan Sibu/Selangau.

Uggah also visited the RM3 million access road project linking the Pan Borneo Highway to Selangau town, which is expected to improve connectivity and mobility for local communities.

He reaffirmed that implementing agencies such as JKR Sarawak will continue to ensure all development projects run smoothly and on schedule for the benefit of the people.

The working visit was joined by the ministry’s permanent secretary Datu Chiew Chee Yau, Sarawak JKR director Dr Cassidy Morris, and Selangau District Officer, Yalin Asan. — DayakDaily
