KUCHING, Jan 21: Parti Sedar Rakyat Sarawak (Sedar) prefers to be independent and has no plans to apply to join Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), said its pro-tem president Dato Othman Abdillah.

“Sedar has been formed and received widespread support from Sarawakians to exercise their democratic rights to have choices.

“There is a huge demand in silence for a new party that has no connections to past mismanagement of Sarawak, including their responsibility in the erosion of Sarawak’s rights.

“The formation of Sedar is to be the people’s choice to lead the state government. Thus, Sedar will offer itself as the alternative to GPS and peninsula-based parties,” Othman told DayakDaily today.

On its registration, Othman said Sedar was still awaiting the Registrar of Societies (RoS)’s approval.

“Sedar is still awaiting approval. We have submitted a petition to YAB Prime Minister, written five letters to ROS and two letters to YB Home Minister in the last seven months.

“We are pleased to inform our supporters and all Sarawakians that we have been allowed to meet RoS recently and have been assured that our application is now in order and a decision will be reached anytime now,” he claimed.

He said Sedar would strive for a better Sarawak for all its people, with priority on raising the quality of life and ensuring an equitable development programme that is sustainable.

“Sarawak is blessed with abundant resources and a hard-working population that, given the right management of the state, will move forward and prosper,” he opined.

Although his party is not registered yet, Othman is very certain Sedar would contest in the next state election, which is due in 2021.

“It is Sedar’s objective to represent the people. Therefore, we will contest in state and general elections,” said Othman. — DayakDaily
