BAU, March 6: Works are underway to complete the water supply grid projects to ensure sufficient treated water supply in the district.

Utilities Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said six projects have been launched in Bau, where three have been completed and the other three progressing well.

“For Bau district, the water supply is coming from the water treatment plants in Bau and Batu Kitang under the Kuching Water Board,” he said when officiating at the electricity supply projects at Kampung Suba Bau, here today.

According to Dr Rundi, among the completed projects included the “Rehabilitation of Delivery Main and Replacement of Faulty SV, AV in Bau and Lundu” in September last year to ensure smooth water supply in the two districts.

In December, the state also completed the “Supply, Delivery, Installation and Replacement of Pumpsets Including Associated Works for the state Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), to change the old and damaged water pump at the station.

The other completed project was the “Supply, Delivery, Installation, and Replacement of Diesel Generating Sets Including Associated Works for JBALB Sarawak” in February this year, aimed to supply electricity for the water pumping station.

On the on going projects, Dr Rundi said the project “Design, Construction, Completion, Testing and Commissioning of Proposed Package SR1 (Southern Region) for Sarawak Water Supply Grid Programme – Stressed Areas” will be divided into three work packages.

“The work orders are the proposed watermain from Batu Kitang to Sebuku Reservoir at Bau, and improvement works to pumping facilities at Batu Kitang Treatment Plant.

“This included the proposed pipe replacement at Bau and upgrading of pipelines for the perimeter pipe of Kampung Singai and from Kerumboi to Simpang Rabak, Padawan,” he continued.

He said theses projects will increase water supply in Bau and Lundu districts, where more treated water will be pumped out from the Batu Kitang Water Treatment Plant.

Dr Rundi also noted the replacing of the undersize water pump pipe to increase water pressure from the plant.

On the upgrading of the Bau Water Treatment Plant to increase the plant capacity to 15 million litres per day, he said the project is on going and expected to be completed by October this year.

Dr Rundi said the rehabilitation works for existing booster station at Batang Kayan and Jugan, to improve capacity of the water pump station at Batang Kayan, is expected completion in November. — DayakDaily
