KUCHING, Jan 18: Wisma Putra will deal with the Philippines government on allegations of a woman from Matang, Sarawak whose daughter and granddaughter are stranded in the country.

According to a news report from TV Sarawak (TVS), Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Well-being Development Sarawak Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said she is confident that Wisma Putra can solve the issue.

“Since this problem involves the issue of overstaying, it will usually be handled by Wisma Putra.

“We also need to know the latest developments and that information will be channeled by Wisma Putra because they will be in contact with the Philippines government,” she said in a statement.

Yesterday (Jan 17), Sheryl Balisia Cabrera claimed that her daughter, 25-year-old Dewi Farisha, and her granddaughter have been stranded in Manila, Philippines since 2019.

What worries Sheryl Balisia is that her daughter’s passport will also expire next month and she has to send money every two days to cover the living costs of her child and grandchild who are living in a slums area in the country.

Fatimah said no detailed information about this case has been received including concerning the alleged fine that Dewi Farisha has to pay to Philippines Immigration for overstaying.

She added that the issue had also been brought to the attention of Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Meanwhile, when contacted by TVS, Woman, Family and Community Development Minister Dato Sri Nancy Shukri said she had discussed the matter with Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusuf.

She also said that Fadillah has instructed his team to investigate. — DayakDaily
