KUCHING, Dec 15: N09 Padungan GPS candidate Dato Wee Hong Seng has urged his DAP rival to stop digging and playing up the KMC flat redevelopment rumours to scare elderly residents and score political points during every election.
From general elections to state elections, Wee said the Democratic Action Party (DAP) has stirred and tried to mislead the people with the same issue for 11 times in 25 years.
“I have been receiving a lot of calls from the old residents of KMC flats expressing their worries, asking whether the flats will be knocked down for a new development.
“How many times more does the Opposition want to use this to mislead and confuse the people? Will they use it again come the next general election?
“So please, please, please do not use KMC flat as political mileage,” he said when dismissing the matter during an online press conference today.
DAP Sarawak chairman and also Pandungan candidate Chong Chieng Jen yesterday questioned if Wee had plans to demolish the KMC flats and turn them into commercial and residential units for profit, after learning that some units there were left vacant and some had not been inhabited for a long time.
Wee, who is also Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor, thus appealed to the Opposition to show empathy for the old folks living in the flats.
“Have mercy on these people. They are old and do not have to suffer this kind of anxiety due to these baseless allegations,” he pointed out.
“This is unfair to the elderly residents. To gain support, you should use sincerity to care, understand and protect them, instead of giving them such unnecessary emotional pressure that have caused many sleepless nights to these people.
“Don’t be swayed by these rumours, it probably will appear again in other elections,” he said, adding that the residents can judge and evaluate for themselves who are the people who really care for their welfare and wellbeing. — DayakDaily
