KUCHING, Feb 6: Due to flooding at the water treatment plant area, water supply to several parts of Selangau will be disrupted until the floodwater level recedes and it is safe to resume operations.

According to a notice issued by Jabatan Bekalan Air Luar Bandar (JBALB) Sarawak last night, the operation of the Selangau Water Treatment Plant had to be halted due to flooding in the intake area as well as rising water levels at the Sungai Batang Mukah, which had exceeded normal levels.

“Therefore, water supply disruptions will occur throughout Jalan Selangau-Mukah area, Jalan Sri Duan, Jalan Selangau-Bintulu, and surrounding areas.

“The JBALB Sibu Division will continuously monitor the flood situation at all times. Water supply will be resumed after the river water level recedes and returns to normal,” it said in a notice on its official Facebook page.

It informed that the delivery of clean water supplies using tankers would also be carried out to the affected areas until the situation returns to normal.

Meanwhile, areas in Lundu along the Pan Borneo Highway might experience water disruptions if rising water levels, caused by continuous rainfall, make it unsafe to continue operations at the local water treatment plant.

JBALB Sarawak explained that it is closely monitoring the conditions at the Lundu Water Treatment Plant as water levels at the Sungai Batang Kayan is rising.

“If the intake of the plant is submerged, the operation of the plant will have to be stopped, resulting in a disruption of water supply in the areas along the Pan Borneo highway (from Kampung Siluk to Gading Heights Housing), Jalan Sampadi, and the surrounding areas.

“Therefore, users are advised to store enough water and use it without wasting,” it said.

Residents in these areas can call JBALB Sarawak’s call centre at 082-262211 for any complaints and inquiries. – DayakDaily
