KUCHING, March 30: Pets may still be infested with rabies after vaccination, as seen in one of the four cases registered by Kuching South City Council (MBKS) within the week between March 24 and 30.

Citing the Covid-19 vaccination as an example, MBKS mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the infested dog, despite being vaccinated and kept in a cage, was found to be behaving abnormally by its owner.

“The owner then surrendered it to us. This was a very responsible way to handle the matter. Even though some pets may be vaccinated, it does not mean that they will be completely immune against rabies,” said Wee during his ShallWeeTalk livestream held today.

He said the case happened at Jalan Chawan, Kuching, and cautioned pet owners to continue to take good care of their pets.

Apart from the Chawan case, there was a bite case involving a rabid pet at Samarinda and another similar case involving a free-roaming pet at Kampung Quap, which is also within the area of Samarahan.

The fourth case was also a bite case by a rabid pet, and it occurred at Lorong Kim Pang 2B, Kuching. — DayakDaily
