KUCHING, Apr 26: The Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) Complex, a 10-storey RM75.663 million building located on a 3.19-acre site along Unity Lane in Kuching, was inaugurated today as a central administrative and interfaith coordination hub for non-Muslim religious affairs in Sarawak.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the complex brings together administrative offices, shared facilities and community spaces designed to support engagement among different religious groups under one structure.
He said the building was developed based on a concept of unity through architecture, featuring a modern exterior design and an interior layout that reflects Sarawak’s multicultural society.
At the same time, he noted that the structure incorporates Green Building Index (GBI) standards, with energy-efficient systems, natural lighting and ventilation integrated into its design in line with the state’s sustainability agenda.
In terms of facilities, Uggah said the complex consists of a nine-storey office tower with eight levels of office space measuring 6,932 square feet each, an executive lounge with two function rooms, a rooftop garden, a banquet hall with capacity for up to 1,000 people, nine retail units, and 286 parking bays, including two electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
He added that shared spaces such as the upper-level function rooms and the rooftop garden will be made available for use by various houses of worship for meetings and community activities.
Beyond its physical facilities, he said the UNIFOR Complex is intended to function as a shared platform for dialogue and cooperation among religious communities in the state, supporting efforts to strengthen mutual understanding and social cohesion.
Meanwhile, the complex is located along Unity Lane, an area that also houses several community and cultural institutions, including the Islamic Information Centre, Dayak Cultural Foundation and other organisations representing Sarawak’s diverse communities.
The land for the complex was allocated by the Sarawak government, with an additional 0.023 acres donated by Arif Hemat Sdn Bhd (Samling). — DayakDaily
